Works consisted of breakout and removal of 700m2 roof slab, along with substructure alterations for a new lift shaft. We installed a conveyor belt system and used one of the existing lift shafts as a chute for the rubble. The system worked very well and exceeded programme expectations, despite the constraints of noisy working hours. Working concurrent with the roof demolition was our breakout works to ground floor to create a new lift pit, carried out in confined space. Temporary works was required to maintain a structural ring beam above the excavation remained.
